Waloto, meaning 'The Children', performs a soulful blend of native African rhythms, contemporary gospel music and ethnic dance. These children are among the 800,000 children of Uganda that have lost one or both of their parents to the AIDS virus. Admission is free; however information will be made available for those who wish to support this worthy cause. Following the concert, at 6:30, p.m. there will be the Massey Building Dedication Dedication Ceremony. Opening ceremonies will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Newcastle Community Hall. ' Friday, June 30 is a busy day with the festivities beginning at 11 a.m. with a re-dedication of a plaque to the original settlers being dedicated at Bond Head Park. Then at 5:30 p.m. Miss Universe will be presented with a necklace set from Swarovski, arranged by the Village Card , and Gift Shoppe. Also beginning at 5:30 p.m. the fun starts at the Newcastle IGA with an Olde Fashion Fun Fair complete with cotton candy, popcorn, face painting and tattoos. Local band One Second Too Late will be featured. At 7:30 p.m. the parade begins. Complete Complete with 10 matching bands including the Governor General Light Horse and the Kawartha Cavaliers. Also performing will be three young singers, Kim Hunt, Kayla Vanderlip, and Shelby Atherton. "The idea of this event is to showcase the talent of Newcastle. The Heritage Show will be displaying the possessions and artifacts of people who lived here in the past 150 years," said Bev Jeeves, music teacher and organizer of the Youth concerts. Taking place in the council chambers will be a re-enactment of an historic council meeting written by Greg. Ward and performed by local actors. On Saturday also drop by the Baptist Church for a kids' fun fair, the Anglican Church and enjoy an old fashion Summer Fayre which includes luncheon and tours of the historic church. Enjoy Canada Day Tea and Art in the Garden at Yummy Pleasures with proceeds proceeds going to the Historic Society. Judging of the Costume Contest will take place at 5 p.m. at the Gazebo. With the grand prize of a 12-night trip for two to the arctic, air fare not included, as well as other prizes. At 5 p.m. venture down to the Port of Newcastle Marina for a round of "Putters Landing" mini golf. After your game stay for a barbecue and birthday cake to be cut on the Lake's shore.
