The market, now in its second year, opened to the public on Sunday, June 25, and will continue continue to run in the parking lot of the Newcastle Arena every Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Oct. 15. • According to Suzanne McCrim- mon, economic developmentman- ager.for the Clarington Board of Trade, 20 vendors will be on hand every weekend selling everything from "buffalo meat to fruits and vegetables," as well as a local baker offering artisan breads. In addition to food, a small selection of crafts and soaps will also be available to shoppers. "They (the breads) were a huge draw last year," said Ms. McCrim- mon. "The only thing we're missing missing is a cheese vendor. We've covered everything else." ,The market came about as a way for the municipality to increase i economic traffic in Clarington. "We're trying to look at new ' perspectives," she said. "Agriculture "Agriculture is very strong in Clarington Clarington and it brings the community together." According to Ms. McCrimmon, the success of last year's market increased the amount of vendors this year. . "People are coming up to shop and eat lunch, that sort of thing." • The market has also drawn attention from towns outside the municipality, such as Whitby and Port Hope. "We had a visitor's book last year, and many people were from out of town,".Mr. Lee said. "I think it's a great service to the community," Mr. Lee said. "Residents "Residents love it, and it brings people from outside of the community." A lot of the hard work farmers put into their crops are being offered at the Newcastle Farmer's Market. Plenty of fresh produce is available these days including at the Newcastle Farmer's Market.
