So the fact that Burketon couple John and Mary Beth Heron are among those representing the country at the 25th International Shuffleboard Association tournament is no small feat. The best players from Canada, the United States, Brazil, Australia and Japan will take part in the Aug. 17-24 event in Lakeside, Ohio. For the second time in a month, and third time this season, the Hawkeyes' senior team was unable to play at Civic Stadium on Saturday as the City closed the field due to heavy rain, fearing damage. The Hawkeyes scrambled to secure the field at Pine Ridge Secondary School in' Pickering, with players buying 23 cans of paint and lining the field themselves in order to get their Northern Football Conference, season finale in against the Tri-City Outlaws, winning 20-3. Despite the victory, the . Hawkeyes will open the playoffs on the road this week- of truth to what he says. After all, while the Herons are only able to play the game once a week with the Scugog Shuffleboard Club through the summer, the six months they spend in Florida each year often sees them playing six times a week.
