Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Lillian (Cooper) Peck. Joan entered the Congregation of Notre Dame in 1949, and made Religious Profession in 1951 alter which she taught in several schools throughout Cape Breton and Oshawa, Ont. She was a graduate of St. F.X. in 1964 (BA -B. Ed) Joan also obtained her Master of Arts in Mathematics Mathematics from Villanova University, Pa. Joan was fun-loving as many of her friends will remember - but Joan's special milieu was the classroom with students who loved her. She excelled in teaching Math and her patient kindness in explaining it made her students understand it, love it - and the one who taught it as well. Many former pupils will remember her strong passion for teaching, her carefree spirit and above all her loyalty to each of her students. Upon retiring after several years as an outstanding teacher, Joan continued to live in Oshawa, Ont. She is survived by her sister Loretta (Don) Morrison, Oshawa, her brother Danny California; California; Aunt Audrey (Cooper) Stephen, Vancouver; Aunt Betty Cooper, Cleveland, N.S. Also surviving is her niece Marie (Eric) Lamers; nephews: Donald (Denise) Morrison, Jimmy (Pauline) Morrison, her grand nieces Crystal, Meagan, Mallory, Michelle and Abbey, her grand nephews Jason and Graham and her cousins who were always a very dominant part of Joan's life.
