p Page B2 ♦ THE CANADIAN STATESMAN ♦ September 20,2006 durhamregion.com The beat goes on for Durham College softball team OSHAWA - Only 54 more to go for the Durham Lords women's fastball team. After consecutive blowout wins to begin the 2006 OCAA conference season, season, that's the number of wins in a row the Lords will need to equal their streak of perfection which was honoured prior to Friday night's home opener, a 12-1 blowout of the Cambrian Golden Shield. ' In front of a decent crowd at Durham Field, the ladies benefitted from a 3- for-3 night from Kara Hayes along with two hits each from Vanessa Chaborek, Amanda Ellison and Danielle Smith, who was also outstanding on the mound, in picking up her first win of the sea-,' son. Smith, an Oshawa resident, and one of nine rookies this season, tossed five innings allowing only two hits and one run while striking out 11 to pick up the victory. Saturday in Game 2 of the weekend double dip, Smith was one out away from a perfect game before the march was broken up by Cambrian. Smith still managed to keep them scoreless, and thanks in part to a seven run fourth inning, the Lords won 10-0. At the plate, Chaborek was 4-for-4 indication, the Lords men's baseball team should be in for another successful year on the diamond. Gord Robertson tossed seven innings with eight strikeouts in the Lords' 10- 3 win over York Saturday afternoon, completing the two-game sweep after Durham won the opener 4-2. Dale Kryway and Bryan Wood knocked in two runs each, while Robertson won his ninth in a Lords unifomi, tying him with Jeff Pearce for the school record. Peter Stefanovic was equally impressive impressive in Game I on the mound: After yielding a pair of runs in the first, Stefanovic Stefanovic shut out the Lions the rest of the way to preserve the win. The Lords' offence came alive late scoring four in the final two frames to snatch victory.
