MAYOR'S CORNER FULLTIME FIRE FIGHTING IN NEWCASTLE Clarington's Master Fire Plan has been developed to co-ordinate the growth in Fire Services with the growth in population and locate new fire halls where we can achieve the best response times. Back'in 1998, we created full time fire service in Courtice which allowed for Courtice residents to have major savings in their home insurance due to having a full time brigade. Last year, we located Fire Services in a state- of-the-art facility with Durham Regional Police on Trulls road. This has resulted in many Municipalities looking at housing all emergency response under one roof. Now the time has come to address Newcastle Village. Our Fire Master Plan has targeted a new fire hall in Newcastle over the next 6 or 7 years, however, it is my position that this must happen sooner. Along with the construction of a fire hall that will house a full time brigade we are ramping up our fulltime firefighters so fulltime fire services in Newcastle will become a reality and the residents will see a better response time and significant savings in their insurance costs. The age of a building or structure does riot necessarily determine if it should be included in the inventory. Buildings and structures that display a high degree of craftsmanship or artistic merit would also qualify. The Planning Services Department will be establishing a database linking the photographic record to any archival records on file or obtained during the inventory update. To this effect, we are requesting public input into the completion of the inventory.
