Dr. Schell, the GTMA board member representing Durham Region, and Karen Campbell, also of the GTMA, attended a Region's finance and administration meeting last month to give committee members an overview of recent GTMA activities. They included the 2006/2007 International Marketing Plan, raising international awareness through the GTMA's mission to India and attracting attracting international delegations. "The world is connected to the Greater Greater Toronto Area though the GTMA," Dr. Schell said. "For the fees that are being paid, the Region gets a lot for their money." The GTMA is a public-private partnership partnership representing 29 municipalities and regions in the Greater Toronto Toronto Area, the governments of Ontario and Canada, several not-for-profit organizations, and a broad cross section of private-sector corporations. Following the municipal municipal election in November, Durham council will decide whether to enter into a multiyear multiyear service agreement with the GTMA in 2007. Some councillors argued the Region is getting little or no return on the investment of $100,000 per year. Dr. Schell said there is huge benefit Pat Olive to be gained from the Region's membership membership in the GTMA and that can be seen through Oshawa making the short list of a Dutch gaming company looking looking to relocate.
