- Description
- Fancy Dress Ball, spring of 1886
- Notes
- During the late 1800s the Far East, particularly China and Japan held quite a fascination for Westerners. This fancy dress extravagana verifies this, with its display fo lanterns, Japanese fans and all the colourful costumes, parasols, pigtails and jewellery. It is believed the whole event might have been inspired by a Gilbert and Sullivan opera being written around this time.
