The adze, gouge, and three points featured in this exhibit were found in the vicinity of Lakeport and Colborne.
This stone adze, which is tentatively dated to 1400 to 1625 A.D., marks a time when approximately 75,000 Indigenous people lived in the lands known today as Ontario. The Iroquois numbered approximately 60,000 and lived in southern Ontario. Algonquian-speaking people comprised a population of 15,000, mostly in northern Ontario, but with smaller communities also in the south.
