Charles Rutherford was the last surviving World War I Victoria Cross holder when he died in 1989 at age 97.
Newspapers across Canada such as the Province (Vancouver), the Edmonton Journal, the Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star, the Ottawa Citizen, and the Montreal Gazette carried the news about Charles Rutherford's passing.
The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times also noted his passing.
