Trinity Church, Colborne
Sketch and text by Barry King

"The first Anglican place of worship in Colborne was a log schoolhouse on Division Street where services were conducted by travelling missionaries as early as 1836. A meeting in 1843 led to the building of the present structure [on King Street East].

Joseph A. Keeler, the founder of Colborne and the son of the first settler, was present along with Messers. Goslee, Gilchrist, McMurray and Campbell. [The] Rev. Wilson reported that the exterior was competed in 1846 and the structure was officially opened by Bishop Strachan of Toronto in August of that year.

The land and lumber were donated by Mr. Junis Goslee, an insurance agent. Originally the Glebe land consisted of 50 acres bounded by King Street [East] on the north, Victoria Street on the west and Elgin Street on the east with the Grand Trunk Railway as its southern limit.

Several memorial windows, including The Presentation in the Temple, The Ascension, The Good Shepherd and The First Easter Morning, grace the interior of the church.

In 1962, when the Church of St. Peter at Lakeport was demolished, the sanctuary windows given in memory of Canon Davidson, and other memorials, were rededicated in Trinity Church. The bell of St. Peter’s, though, could not be removed."
