- Description
- Lakes in Kawartha Lakes that have been seeded with manoomin (wild rice), Canada's only native cereal grain. It has been a staple of Indigenous diets, culture, and ceremonies for thousands of years.
Rice Lake is known for these rice beds. Pigeon Lake, a man-made lake created as part of the Trent Severn Waterway, flooded over significant portions of land and is now being used by Black Duck Wild Rice to seed rice beds, much to the anger and dismay of cottage owners on the shores. - Publisher
