Daunt first teacher, built – 1852”, not in Beall collection, can be found in Lindsay Old Home Week 1924, pg.63; pen and ink drawing of the Lindsay grammar or Union school, built in 1863, demolished in 1921. The notation reads “The Grammar school occupied but one room only – southwest corner – ground floor. Staff consisted of one teacher only – Mr. Robert Hudspeth about 25 pupils”, no Beall plate found.

The first bit of “permanent” or “cement paving” done in Lindsay. The pavement has never been taken up or repaired – to date 1933 – only one crack in it. Otherwise as good as new after over 40 years wear. Quite a contrast to local work. Clock installed 1916.”
