My dear Wallace:-
I was very much grieved when I read today in the papers of the death of your father. This death rumour from each one of our oldest and much esteemed friends. Few men of my circle of our acquaintances did I value more highly, both for his manly character and his mental calibre. The whole district where he lived will unite with me in saying that we shall never look upon his like again.
I wish you to convey yo your sister and your brother my deepest sympathy to your bereavement.
I am, yours very sincerely,
J. Henderson
