- This image was published in Glenn J. Lockwood. "Smiths Falls: A Social History of the Men and Women in a Rideau Canal Community 1794-1994." Smiths Falls: Corporation of the Town of Smiths Falls, 1994, p.439 - caption reads: "The Carnegie public library designed by G.M. Bayly of Ottawa and constructed by John Davidson at Smith's Falls in 1903, as photographed circa 1905. This is generally acknowledged to be the finest design of some thirty libraries in Canada underwritten by the American steel magnate, Andrew Carnegie. Francis, Charles and William Frost pledged extensive donations to ensure the library would enjoy continuous operation for the next twenty years. ..."
