Notes
The plaque reads: "What began as a simple shop on Gould's Island, with a few stove and ploughs in 1893, developed into Smiths Falls most successful company and largest employer for 116 years. In 1846, company founder Ebenezer Frost partnered with Alexander Wood and by 1865 virtually every company in the world was using Frost and Wood farm equipment. Through tough times, Frost and Wood prospered, surviving both a disastrous fire in 1906 and financial losses during the Depression years. In November 1954, Mr. E.J. Evans, Works Manager, announced that the plant would close in the spring of 1955. Production ceased on April 27th, 1955, and not a single remnant exists of this once proud and massive factory."

Visitor comment submitted (June 2023): "The Works Manager who announced the closing of Frost & Wood in November 1954 was Ed. RYAN, not Evans."
