Notes
The plaque reads: "As World War II neared its end, soldiers returning to Canada looked to buy new homes and a major housing boom was experienced in Smiths Falls. With the passing of the Veterans Land Act of 1942, towns were given a financial incentive to build Victory Homes, which also provided soldiers with more ease in buying homes with minimum down payments. As streets were being developed for Victory Homes, such as Beech, Pine, and Oak Streets which stand before you, three streets were also named in honour of the leaders of the Allied Nations; Roosevelt Drive, Churchill Crescent and Mackenzie Avenue. These streets are located behind you in the post-war houses across the river."
