This sketch was also published in Glenn J. Lockwood's "Smiths Falls: A Social History of the Men and Women in a Rideau Canal Community 1794-1994." Smiths Falls: Corporation of the Town of Smiths Falls, 1994, p.31, plate 16 - the caption reads: "Ward's Mill, Smith's Falls," as sketched by John Burrows in July 1827. This, the earliest view of Smyth's falls, shows (left to right) the south side of Jason Island, Smyth's falls, the mill of Abel Russell Ward built in the mill frame put up by major Thomas Smyth, the buildings of canal contractors George Rykert and James Simpson in the background on French Hill with cleared ground in the foreground, and what presumably was Abel Russell Ward's house on the far right. ..."
