- Description
- Illustrated on p.380 in Montague: A Social History of an Irish Ontario Township 1783-1980 by Glenn Lockwood. Kingston: Mastercraft Printing and Graphics, 1980. The caption reads: "Excavating the Cornelia Street subway, Smith's Falls, c.1911. Although railroad tracks had marked the Smith's Falls-Montague border since the mid nineteenth century, construction of the Cornelia and Chambers Street subways coincided with a growing condescension towards township residents. Montague and its rag-tag subdivisions, Atironto and Carssville, were on the "wrong side of the tracks"."
