Topley photographed this view of Smiths Falls from his boat looking west on the Rideau River. The Frost & Wood footbridge seen in the midpoint of the photograph blocked boats from travelling any closer to the Beckwith Street bridge. The Beckwith Street stone bridge with its two arched abutments is just visible in the far background and the three-storey Crain & Schooley block is seen on the far side of Beckwith Street just to the right. The white multi-floored building on the left is Wood's saw mill.
