In the years following the end of WWI the town of Smiths Falls sought to commemorate its fallen soldiers. The publication Who's Who in Smiths Falls 1924 paid tribute by drawing the attention of Smiths Falls residents to an Honour Roll listing the soldiers' names. Who's Who also indicated that town officials intended to erect a fitting war memorial before the next Remembrance Day (then referred to as Armistice Day).
The town of Smiths Falls has a number of memorials that commemorate local WWI soldiers. Three memorials are located in Veterans' Memorial Park at 41 Canal Street - the Smiths Falls War Memorial Cenotaph, the Vimy Oaks Memorial, and the WWI Memorial. The Evergreen Avenue Memorial is in Victoria Park and the WWI Memorial Cenotaph is beside the Smiths Falls Public Library.
