The performances were good, the feats of strength marvellous and the dancing. the re- sult of good and careful training, but the attendance was small and the gate receipts proportionately so. In the athletic games and dancing, the prizes went to those who were Specially trained for the work and made. a business evidently of giving such exhibitions. Messrs. Gideon Perry and Walter Scott of BrusSels. and C. .7. Curry of Park Hill were the only competitors in the heavy conteSts and of course took all the prizes. To give the order of taking them would he of little or no inter- est. The prizes in dancing too were awarded to outside trained dancers, who, according to regulations ap- peared in costume. The. only prizes taken by the town were those award- ed in the running contests and here we may remark. a little enthusiasm began to manifest itself. In the race for girls under 1:") years, the first and third prizes were taken by Kate Cameron and May Park, re- Spectirely, both of town, while the second was taken by an outsider. Tommy Saunders, Hugh McDonald and Oscvul' Becker of Durham took all the prizes awarded to boys under fifteen. Messrs. Beaton and John- ston were the pipers and gave some good, yes. excellent marches and Strathsm-ys. The highland fling, sword dances and Irish jigs were well performed and were the attend- ance better, infiintely better, we have no doubt the performers and promoters would be pleased. They all acted like gentlemen and Messrs. Johnston and Beaton. who spent some time here have left a very favorable impression. \Vill Clark likes threshing first rate only the thistles.
