Orchard- ville on Thursday laSt. The disagree- able weather had no doubt a tendency to keep many at home. and the turn- out was rather small to give encour- agement to the promoters. The ex- cellent cooking would tempt the most fastidious taste. The waiters were careful to see well to the comforts and needs of all. It was a real old fashioned country tea meeting. All went for enjoyment and none were disappointed. .A'fter supper, which was served in the school house, a very unpretentious spot, the cosy little church was resorted to and a rare treat was furnished by way of Speeches. choruses and solos. The chair was ably filled by Mr. Wm. Allan, who Seems to have a license for occupying such positions of honor. The speakers were Revs. Lennie and Kitching, Inspector Campbell. Mr. Clark and the chairman. Ye Editor too said a few words. All. except the last, did well but the singing: seemed to be the most interesting part of the program. furnished by seven members of the Mt. Forest Baptist Choir led by Mr. Cook. The singing was pronounced good by comâ€" petent judges. We were much pleased with a solo by Mr. Cook, but what touched the sympathetic chord of our n-iture was the excellent ren- dering of “Home Sweet Home.” by Miss Lennie. daughter of Rev. Mr. Lennie. She has a clear, sweet, well cultured voice, and to add grace tr: her other charms she lacks that stiff stageyness too often seen. Every word was distinct and free from af- fcctation. 'l‘he receipts were not large. but since their little church is free from debt and the principal 0b- jcct of the n'ieeting was for social intercourse. the shortage in the pro- ceeds will be a minor consideration.
