A., who r. was formally ordained and inducted [into the pastorate of this church. ‘In the afternoon in the presence of a w fairly sizcu audience the council of ’lthe church, composed of several F. 1 members of the Owen Sound Baptist v I “Association, Rev. Mr. Norton of O. ela‘ound presiding, met in the church, ° ' when Mr. Darrech was called uponl " to relate his conversion, call to the : minisny. and give a statement of ,his doctrinai views, which, after a {searching examination was found to i be satisfactory to the council. In the ’levening the church was again well ' filled with a deeply interested con- gregation, when the Rev. Mr. Brown of Orangeville preached the ordina- l tiou sermon, taking {or his text John ’17:“). 18, dwelling in an interesting and forcible manner upon the chris- tian’s mission in the world. The I speaker emphasized the thought that as Christ “as not of the world, so .sbould his disciples be not of the world. but having first through re- generation come out from the world, they must then, filled with the Holy .Ghost, go out into the world to {manifest God to the worid, and do ' the will of him that sent them. Mr. §Darrcch was then called to the plat- ?form. and surrounded by his breth- l ren in the ministry was formally and 'soleninly ordained with the laying , on of hands. Rev. Mr. Burns Sr. of Ben- itinck then feelingly addressed the ‘pastor, giving him admonition and Pwords of counsel such as would u aurally fall from the lips of on) of the aged fathersin the church. Rev. Ml‘x Norton then addressed the church : l l l 2 tended the right hand of fellowship fl and in a brief address welcomed the a pastor-elect to the ranks of the t‘ miniStrv. A hymn was sung and u Mr. Darroch pronounced the bene- diction, after which he was warmly ‘1 greeted by his people. F Toronto and vicinity sent its con- tingent of visitors among us last week. Mr. J. S. During the terrific thunder-storm, which passed over this vicinity on Wednesday of last week, Mr. J. Mc- Vicar’s house was struck by lightning and considerably damaged, in fact there were only two rooms through- out the whole house and kitchen that were not entered, and how some of the inmates escaped sudden death seems a marvel. The electricity en- tered by one of the chimneys. scat- tering it, and cracking that end of the house from top to bottom. Miss :McAsey, teacher, who is a boarder Lat Mr. McVicar’s. was sleeping in a ’front room. Hearing the storm coming she arose, and not too soon, as almost immediately the damaging flash came. Knocking ed the plaster at the head of the bed, it split the two footposts of the bed, partly des- troyed the dressing case, splintered the floor. and broke two panes in the window. In the room adjoining slept two of Mr. McVicar’s children and the hired girl. The girl was thrown out of bed: the clock and mirror broken, and a fire set in some clmhesunder the bed, while many Other parts of the house showed the fearful fearful power of electricity in a more or less marked degree The house and contents are insured.
