Flesher, of Flesherton, a boy about fourteen years of age, while handling a revolver last Wednesday night accidentally shot his mother in the leg. Dr. Carter was hastily summoned but has not been able to locate the bullet. The boy feels very much distressed over the ac- cident, and has, no doubt, learned a lesson not likely to be forgonten. Other boys should take this asa warning, but we fear that only ex- perience will teach them. MR. JAMES LAUutn, shoemaker up- town, took suddr 11ly- ill on Saturday night, and on Sunday morning he was reported dead. On Monday morning. however we had the priv- ilege of walking along the street and talking with either him or his ghost we believe it was his genuine self without any supernatural trans- formation whatever. He thinks he’ll hang out for a while yet. He ac- tually told us he was still alive. and we felt quite confident at the time he Was telling the truth. A remittance from Mrs. '1‘. H. Smith, of Portage La Prairie, reach- ed us on Saturday, which gives her the honored distinction of being the furthest paid-in-advance subscriber on our list. Mrs. Smith is a sister of Mrs. Chas. McArthur, of this town. THE CHRONICLE is always a welcome visitor and until the first of January 1901 neither dunning notice in the paper. nor dunning slips that get in accidentally will disturb her equilb- rlum. It was really worth a year’s subscription to see the glowing glad~ ness in our countenance as we gazed on the immense heap of money roll- ing out before our astonished vision.
