MOORE, of this town was startled Monday by receiving a tele- gram from Nicola Valley. B. C, announcing the death of his father: Mr. John Moore well known years ago in Durham and vicinity. REV. Mr. Ferguson and Misses Orchard, Lauder, Limin. Matthews, ”Wolfe, Fox, Whelan, Kress and others attended the District Epworth League Convention at Mt. Forest on Tuesday and had a sociable, and profitable time. Mr. Alex. Stevens, of the Durham Road near Hanover, at one time a teacher in Durham, died at his home on Sunday last at the age of sixty- four years. Deceased was a brother- in-law of Mrs. J. L. Browne and Mrs. B. B. Moore. The interment took place Tuesday afternoon to Hanover Cemetery. A VERY successful Sunday School Convention was held lasn week in Trinity Church. Rural De'an Robin- son, of Hanover, Rev. Mr. Hill, of Dundalk, Rev. Dr. Caswell, of Mea- ford, Rev. Mr. Herbert, of Walters Falls. Rev. J. R. Newell, of Markdale and Rev. E. E. Bray, of Hanover, were present and took part. The attendance was good. MR. J. D. Gunn, preprietor of the Middaugh House up to last. week, died here yesterday, Wednesday, morning. For some time he com- plained of heart trouble, and his sudden death was not. altogether a. surprise. He was twenty eight Vears of age, and leaves a wife but no children. While returning from the Conven- tion at Hanover last Friday night. John Hales was driving the rig and just as he was on the railway crossing an engine shunting in the yard moved rapidly towards him. Seeing their danger all except the driver jumped from the rig; which was just then struck by the engine. Miss Irwin was shaken up a little but sustained no serioas injuries.
