FROM present indications the potato crop in this part of Ontario will be a failure. Some pronounce them so bad as not to be worth the digging. As the Cement Works are nearing completion, the number of workmen are becoming less and less. It is highly probable that so large a body of laborers will not be seen again in Durham for a year or two at least. The increase in population, however, will be of permanent character, and a desirable class to add to the com- munity. The erection of a few more dwellings is still necessary, and citi- zens with money could make a good dividend out of a reasonable invest- ment in that line. DO you know that the South Grey Exhibition will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, the ‘23rd and 24th of this month. This fair has usually been a success, and we hope that local intereSt this year will bring it up above the average. The larger fairs and the cheap rates to reach them. has no doubt a tendency to re- duce the interest in these local con. cerns Such, in our opinion, should not be the case. and we hope to see a good live interest taken in South Grey. _4_â€"- THE new residence of Mr. John McKechnie, up town, is showing up well, and will apparently be complet- belore many weeks.
