We are not sure that the actual site of this village has been discovered, but a large ossnary was uncovered there years ago which denoted an Indian The Ontario ArchaeIOgical Report for 1903 is to hand and proves to be one of the most interesting of the series, In it we notice an article by Mr. Fred Birch, of Wodehouse. charmingly written. dealing with the possible location of the Indian vil- lage. St. Mathias, or Ekarenniondi (Standing Rock) mentioned in the Jesuit Relations. Mr. Birch made an endeavor to locate it and thinks that he has found it at the caves west of Collingwood. In this he i3} opposed to Father Jones. who. in a} {ormer report located the Standing} J. P. and charged with arson. one of the most serious crimes in the crim- inal code. The trial tool: place the lame alternoon at Kinloss. County Attorney Dixon. who had been tele- graphed for conducted the case in be- half of the Crown. Several witnes- ses were examined. and the substance 0! their evidence is given above. There was no defence. and Hayes was committed to stand his trial. He was conveyed to jail the same day.
