On being told the nature of his mission the editor said he himself did not know one type from another â€"that the mystery of printing was beyond him. “Now†says the oflicer, “I see daylight. If we can get into the printing ofï¬ce I can set up the type. I am sprinter by trade? and between us we can get out thej dilemma†The key was found. 1 The two went upstairs to the print- mg othce. The oï¬cer printer took 03 his coat, rolled up his sleeves and “stuck type†for all he was- worth. A hand press, used for “pulling proof,†was utilized for printing the programs. The work was pronounced ï¬rst-class. The programs were tied up secundum artem. and Prince Louis of Battenbergâ€"for that was the printer’s nameâ€"hurried on board the flagship with the precious parcel which saved the situation; and that night at the ball “all went as 9. mar- riage-bell.†‘- Dr. Johnson recalls the impression he then received that Prince Louis wasa ï¬rstvclass printer, and knew his trade thoroughly.
