Miss Pansv M. Hayden, daughter of Mr. W. F. Hayden, 5259*, Euclid Avenue. was married to Ed- gar W. Paul. D. D. 8., ct Spadina Crescent. Rev Dr. Sowerby perform ed the ceremony. The bride was he- comingly gowned in crepe de Paris with. trimmings of seed: pearls and Brussels lace The veil was arrang ed over a wreath of orange blossnns, A shower boquet of bridal roses and lilies of the valley was carried. The bride was attended by Miss Milly; Hayden as bridesmaid and Miss Ami-i ery Abraham was flower girl. Mr. F. J. (looms assisted the groom, and Messrs W. E Blackie and F D. Hay. den were the ushers. Mr. H. M. Fletcher presided at the organ, and during the eigning of the register Miss Mabel Sawerlv sang "0 Perfect Love.” After the ceremony a recep- tion was held at the home of the bride’s parents, after which Dr. and Mrs. Paul left for a short trip The bride travelled in blue broadclmh, with toque to match Dr. Paul. who is the eldest sea of Mr. and Mrs. John Paul of Feversham, has name was relatives in this place and. vicin- ity whom we join in congratulations. An interesting wedding took place in Toronto on Wednesday of last week which was reported in the city papers on Thursday as follows: There are good reasons for share- holders in Durham to have grave sus- picions regarding the scarcity of marl in \Vilder’s Lake and if the advice, to drain the lake given by Mr. Cochrune in another column he put into effect they will no doubt find to their aston- ishment that they have only reached the loose stuff on the top of the pile. We have a lot more to say and. will say it in due time. We are not going to allow shareholders to he led blindly into another schemetlntt appears for all the world to he zwtuated by asub stratum of selfishness on the part of the promoters. $13,000 they got from the bank to keep them running during the early part of the season. Surely this isa good season’s record and were we so favored next year them are strong signs of a. ten per cent. dividend for each and every Shareholder. The 3110.000 of actual profits shown above should have gone into the pockets this year of the stockholders were it not for the debt to be paid on the mill. This on a. plant capitalized at 31”“,- 000 would be 11%. From reports of marl to be found in Wilder’s Lake, the lake now being used, the expert examination revealed enough to last for at least the present generation in that little body of water alone. Some of our own men were present and did the boring at the time. They still live and still claim that great depths of marl were to be found there. but the officials here claim oth- erwise notwithstanding the enormous success of the mill during the year just drawing to a close. In addition to payments of debt specified above the Company also paid out uf this year’s work, a 1mm of of $7.000 a month has also been met, and above and beyond this there are the necessary outlays for coal, oil, re- pairs, etc., etc'., items we have no way of figuring on. We are told however on good authority that the coal bill for a year will run up to $50M” “ Marl running out” is the cry This is nothing but a bit of wind. Borings are being made now and in the very first test the augur was put down through twenty-fourfeet of solid marl of what appeared to be excellent quality and the boarers tell us they hadn’t reached the bottom then. This boring was made only a few rods from the Company’s property and there are acres of it right there varying from five to twenty-four in depth. There is absolutely no danger of the marl be- coming exhausted during the next hundred years. This was the song we sang during the promotion period, and from subsequent investigations we can sing it now louder than ever. NO SCARCI'I‘Y OF MARI. YEP. CautiHUEd from Page 1.
