I have ridden thousands of miles on the front of our observation: engines and I have seen hundreds of women do that same thing. No one can explain why it is, but if a woman sees a train coming when she is crossing the track she will invariably go across and then change her mind and go back to the place from which “Thereâ€, continued Mr. Hustis, “is an illustration of what is happening every day. You saw how the engino eer slowed up when he saw that woman on the track. He knew just what she would do. But if he had not seen her or anticipated her action she might have had a narrow escape. The Speaker was Assistant General Manager Hustis, of the Boston Al- bany. He was riding in his observa- tion engine with a number of oï¬ctals and reporters on a tour of inspection A woman crossed the track about 200 yards ahead, hesitated, recrossed and waited till the train passed. That woman has many peculiarities of action is a fact that cannot be de. nied, and our Statement will be vouched for by nine out of ten men who have been fortunate in landing the woman of their choice. _ The fol- lowing extract from rhe Boston Her- ald tends to show thi“ peculiarity in one directien:-â€"â€The locomotive en- gineer has many things to look out for and numerous nerve racking ex- periences, but there is nothing in his Whole category of troubles that he dreads quite as much as the presence of a woman on the track ahead.†! There are certain. secretions, celled gastric juices that. act upon the food after it is swallowed and change all the nutrition in it into life-giving blood. WOMAN 'S PECULIARITIES. JOINT DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS ESTABLISHED 1.73 OF CANADA There was many an anxious heart in town on Sunday night, when the northeastern sky bore the tidings of a big ï¬re. Church people had just arrived home and knew the nature of the wintry wind. Thus an interest and sympathy of an unusual charac ter were aroused. Bright and early on Monday morning the unfortunate owner arrived in town to tell the Post the particulars as far as known. It was Mr. James Mauser, of the 5th conceaaion of Bentinck, about one and one quarter miles west of Lamlash. He reported a total loss of barn, con tents, stock and implements. The family were just retiring for the night, and as the wind was high, nothing could be saved. The cause is unknown as no one had been out, and no possible way for any accident to occur. Mr. Manser’s loss will be very heavy. It is insured. but will not nearly cover the misfortune. Everysympathyis therefore expressed for him. as the loss comes in a hard time in every particular.-â€"-Post. (From the Chicago Tribuhe.) - “ ‘Don’t trifle with a cold,’ is good advice for prudent men and women. It may be vital in the case of a child. Proper food, good ventilation, and dry. warm clothing are the proper safeguards against colds. If they are maintained through the change- able weather of autumn. winter and spring. the chances of a surprise from ordinary colds will be slight. But the ordinary light cold will be come severe if negleCted, and a well established ripe cold is to the germ of diphtheria what honey is to the bee. The greatest menace to child life at this season of the year is the neglected cold.†Whether it is a child or adult, the cold slight or se vere, the very best treatment that can be adopted is to give Chamber- lain’s Cough Remedy, It is safe and sure. The‘great popularity and im- mense sale of this â€preparation has been attained by its remarkable cures of this ailment. A cold never results in pneumonia when it is given. For sale at Parker’s Drug Store. NEGLECTED COLDS THREATEN LIFE. A man would have “put his foot in it.†and got out; but the peculiar woman,â€"well, she just naturally had to keep a’trampin’. me! Oh dear! Zamboanga! and sever- al other expletives so well known to the feminine vocabulary were indulg. ed in. Then, with uplifted skirts she started to do an Alabama cake-walk, turning and twisting, now here, now there, and with every step putting the kibosh on more sidewalk. Final- ly, one of the men assisted her to a more solid footing or it’s dollars to doughnuts she’d be there yet. It took about an hour to Straighten out her work of two minutes, and the adjeCtives indulged in after her de- parture wouldn’t look well in the “Introdumion†of an etiquettical edition on “How to Conduct Your- self Before Ladies.†In the year 1903, when the city of Los Angeles was booming and the now beautiful 36th street was in its infancy. a large gang of concrete workers were busily engaged in lay- ing granolithic sidewalk on that par- ticular thoroughfare. The day had been exceedingly warm, and many of the workers were congratulating themselves that the sultry day was over. and, in a very few minutes more they would be homeward bound to dinner and a pleasant hour in one of the beautiful parks for which that city is deservedly famous. But this was not to be, for some of them, at least. About this time, a well dress- ed young lady appeared. cross coun- try-wise, evidently trying to make the ï¬rst car into the city. With a jaunty, swinging Stride that would; do credit to Dave Hartley himself, she seemed to have success and the electric within her graspâ€"if it hadn’t been for that sidewalk. Before she knew it, she was ankle deep in the soft cement that had been laid not an hour before. Mercy she started The above reproduction reminds the writer of a similar experience that happened to him in California, th ongh the woman in the case in this instance was not track-walking, and the only danger sl-e was exposed to was the nnexpressed blessmgs of the mechanics whose handiwork she upset in less time than it takes to tell it.
