But soon his compenions be- came horrified to notice that he did n0t re appear on the surface as ex pected. Some of them jumped in, hoping to be able to render him as sistance, but they could not find him. The water at that place is about 14 feet deep, and being for the most part spring water is very cold. Whether he struck something in the water, or whether it was the shock to the system by coming into contact with the cold water, Which caused his death is unknown. Deceased was a son of Mr. \Vm. Cassidy. Who lives at lot 19, con. 2.31. D. R. Greenock, about a mile and a half north of Riversdale. He was a strong, active young man of about 20 years of age. Sunday morning when he suddenly threw himself in front of his mother. who was proceeding across the floor with a pot full of boiling water in her hands The result was that his mother was tipped, and could not prevent some of the hot contents of the pm from falling upon the little fellow’s shoulders. Mr. Davis Sprang quickly to the rescue. and rushed to the doctor with his little son. Everything possible was done to re- lieve the little sufier’s agony, and on Monday morning his mother and eldest sister took him to the Sick Children’s Hospital; where he will get the best of treatment. and it is hOped will soon recover.â€"Tribune. Most people say worryâ€"they are wrongâ€"the cause is in the blood which is thin, and lacks nutriment. To cure “Nerves” more blood, sinew and flesh are required. You get these quickly by taking Ferrozone. ho health bringer is so certain, no nerve Strengthener more potent, no system tonic so well adapted to the wants of the run down. nervous or sleeplcss. Let Ferrozone build you up. let it fill you with vim, energy and surplus vigor, It has done this for thousands. Astrange thing was discovered down at Harry Hauck’s the other day. Hauck reported to Mr. Russell that he couldn’t get any water out of his tap and Russell went- down to in vestigate. He could not discover anything wrong, Still the pipes seem- ed to be empty of water, and in the end men were employed to dig it up He had to dig all the way to the main pipe and even then they could discover nothing wrong. But after dis connecting the pipe, they soon found the cause of the trouble. What they did find was a dead frOg in the pipe. or to be more accurate. they found the leg of a dead frog in the pipe How the frog gOt its leg into the pipe. or why it couldn’t pull it out again. are things which cannot be explained. neither can it be ex- plained how the frog got into the main pipe in the first placeâ€"Tel escope. One of the moss: regrettable afl'airs that has happened in this section for some time, occurred last Friday night, when Walter Mournanan as- saulted his brocher Henry. The latter had just left Oscar Crewson’s home when he encountered Walter at the road and was at once set upon. In the mesa Walter used a knife” which. glancing at Henry’s watch‘ case, out through the skin striking a rib. There was no witness to the set-to at first. but the noise attracted the attention of Mr.Crewson, who separated them. On Friday Henry laid a charge before S. Tate, J. P., who, with A. Richardson, J. P., heard the case on Saturday afternoon. Mr. Island appeared for Walter Mourna- han, while Squire Pattnllo looked after the Crown’s interests in the absence of Mr. MacKay. The case was adjourned for a week, and friends then renewed attempts to have an amicable settlement made, which seemed to be happily efiected until Monday morning. when it was learn. ed that the case muSt go to trial. Chief of Police Farrell. of Arthur, whose plucky arrest of Meir, the murderer, has brought him into prominence. made another clever capture recently. On May 13th a young woman left a six months old baby at the residence of Mr. George Gray. Kenilworth, and forgot to re- turn for it. The baby was handed over to the township authorities and Far- rell set to work to locate the heart- less mother. This he did in two days. finding the mother a young woman of ‘22. in PalxoerSton. She acknowledged leaving the child, but claimed as a jzstification that she had forgotten the place where she had left the infant. Chief Farrell took her into cusmdy and the case will shortly come before Police Mag- istrate Hudson. who. the Enterprise says, will in al'. likelihood exercise clemency as the mother committed no crime, other than hartless aban- donment.â€"Mt. The good book says, “Give to everyone that asketh thee,” but that doesn’t mean to give a drunkard money to buy whiskey; it doesn’t mean to give the baby a ham- mer and looking glass because he asks for it, and it doesn’t mean that we should give to professional beg- gers who travel from town to town. Ontario Agricultural College desiresj to announce the continuance of its previous oEer of assistance to far- mers in matters pertaining to drain- age. For the past three years We have been authorized by the MiniSter of Agriculture to go out and assist any farmers in making the levels of his lands for drainage purposes, in plan- ning the most advantageous systems of drains, and in calculating the grades and sizes of tile for the dif- ferent drains. A finished map bear- ing all the information is sent to the owner. This serves two purposes: first. it is used as a guide in con- structing the drains; second, it may be preserved as a record of the exact location of every drain, so that if for any reason it should be necessary in years to come to find any drain it could be done accurately at a moment’s notice. The number of applications for as- sistance has increased very rapidly, so that last year we had many more than we could attend to To enable us to meet this increased demand the Minister of Agriculture has this year given us a Special appropriation whereby we have been enabled to double our stafi for this work. A new feature is now being added: We have found in the past that frequently the neighbors in the vicinity of the farm being surveyed were interested and wished to ob- serve the Operations. This suggested the desirability of making these dem onstrations public, and this will be done whenever possible. Anyone in- terested will be welcome on all oc casions. By this means we shall be able to instruct a much larger num- ber in matters pertaining to drainage problems. Anyone wishing drainage survey- ing done should apply to Wm, E. Day, Dapartment of Physics. 0. A. C., Guelph. The only outlay con- nected with the work is the travel- ling expenses of one man, including meals, cartags of instruments and railway fare at one cent a mile each way. ._ The Department has just issued a new pamphlet on "Farm Drainage Operatione,”which may be had on application.
