Presbyterian church, is an able preacher (a Canadian by the way,) says the \Vingham Advance. Recently he offered to take charge c f one of the city daily newspapers for .one issue, to show his plan of an ideal ‘ newspaper, the proceeds to be given, to charitable purposes. Now Pasa-f dena papers are both clean creditable: newspapers. but that is more than can be said of Los Angeles sheets, at least most of them. Mr. McLeod succeeded in getting out a very creditable number of the Pasadena Star, but in doing so he found the editorial sanctum quite the reverse of the quiet of the pastor’s study. He found such “hustle. such hurry, such rush and excitement,†that one day was quite suflicient in the sanctum. Mr. Mco ‘ Lend is now getting $6,000 ayear with }six months vacation, and an assistant pastor that does the visiting and reaches on Sunday evenings. He as accepted a call to a New York church on the following termsâ€"salary $5.000 a year; if he remains their pastor until he reaches a certain time .of life and chooses then to retire, $10.000a year whilehe lives. should he die while in active service, his wife is to receive an annuity of several thousands during her life. \Ve do not wonder that Mr. McLeod prefers the1 ministry to the strenuous life of a newspaper man. Here is what he said in closing his editorial experience one day:â€"Never more shall I criticize newspaper men. I shall pray for them.
