Mr. and Mrs. Leo. Smith, and baby, of Hamilton, spent the week end at Reeve Hunt’s. Mr. Hunt attended the County Council meeting in Hanover last week, and is enthusiastic in his praises of the neatness and sobrieâ€" tv of the progressive town. and of the generous treatment they re- ceived from the popular Commons representative, Mr. ILH. Miller. Zion’s Sunday school picnic on Saturday was ome of the best in its history. The day was a delight- ful one. About 300 happy souls were present, quite a number be- ing out from town, and goodly representation from Edge Hill, Bunessan, Rocky Saugeen and Townsend’s Lake. The program ‘was a most entertaining one and were well Varied. The recitations were bright and songs lively, the music furnished by Messrs, George Ritchie, and J.L. McDonald, AI}. Blair, and Mrs. Will Jack, was wonderfully sweet, While Stewart McArthur, of Durham suburbs, is truly a musical prodigy. He was repeatedly encored. Mr. and Mrs W.J. McFadden, of Egremont, gave a most pleasing dauet, and a hum- onous dialogue by Messrs. T. Cock Stewart amd Lorne McNally, and Miss B. Taylor, was a huge su-â€" cess. One of the most interesting incidents on the program was a presentation of a moist compli- mentary address to Miss Taylor, accompanied by a beautiful gold locket and gold brooch, set with pearls. Miss Taylor was comâ€" pletely taken by surprise, but made a neat speech of thanks. and was given three rousing cheers and a tiger. ’Tis with sorrowing hearts that the section parts this week with their popu- lar teacher. Mr. Allan Bell, of town, made the neatest. best ap- plied picnic speech we have heard for many a long day. A splendid feast followed, and Mesdames Cook and Hunt established tieir reputation as singer-kettle tea- makers. The liveliest interest \ivas taken in the various races, which were keenly contested, and afford- ed lots of fun. Secretary W. L. Falkingham had a busy time, but made the winners all happy. A game of baseball wound up a happy day. SOME STRAY NOTES. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ritchie, an, celebrated their slat wedding day by being present.
