Vancouver, B. C.; Miss Laura She w land Mr. Wesley Shaw, of Lions Head; Mrs. J. M. Thurston, and ’ Myrtle Thurston. Toronto. I The young couple left for their g new home at Lions Head, the! bride 'traveliing in a handsome suit of gamethyst broadcloth, with hat to match. In the many good wishes for their future happiness, we . heartily join. By our own correspondent. The Flasher-hon Methodist church 'was the scene of a pretty wedding. on Wednesday afternoon, Septem- ber the 14th, when Miss Myrtle Alberta, second daughter of Mr. W H. Thurston. editor of the Flesherton Advance, and Mrs Thurston, was joined in marriage with Mr. Robt. W. Shaw, of Lions Bead, Ont. The brides pastm, Rev. H. E. Wellwood, B.A,;~,B, D;: conducted the impressive service, in the presence of a large congreâ€" gat1on, and the weddi ng marches were rcndeled by Mis s Rita Irv." of Durham. 11ho presided at the organ, pla3ing 1033 softly during the ceremon3. The bride, who looked Very pretty, entered the. church on the arm of her fath(.-11.l b3 whom she Mas given away.‘ She wore a dainty go11n of 1110 1 silk and tulle veil arranged off i the face with coronet of orange blossoms, and carxied a sheaf of! brilal roses. The bride and groom were unattende d. ‘The altar was artistically decorat- ed ‘with white asters, palm and ferns, and the pews for the guests; .were marked with white satin. streamers and asters. After the marriage, a choice 11cddinr breakfast was served at the home :of the bride, the table and house decorations being in good taste IMessages of congratulation were recei1 ed from Editor Irwin, and other friends at a distance. 3 ‘Lllla Ltil‘uyln u--v .-_._ I The other epitaph is in St, Paul’s !Cathedral, in London. Among the lmany monuments to England’s heroic dead which this building. .jholds is one which at once arrests ia-ttention by its ’simplicity and jbeauty. It is a plain sarcophagus . on which rests a recumbent statue of noble presence. Beneath the zfigure are these words: Sacred to the memory of I General Charles George Gordon, who at all times and everywhere gave his strength to the World, his substance to the poor, his sympa- .th_v to the suffering, his heart to The bride, who will be "much missed, was the recipient of many valuable presents, among them being beautifully bound copies of the Bible and Methodist hymnbook from the Methodist Sunday school, and a handsome Wicker chair from the primary classes in the Methodist Sunday school and pub- lic school. A few evenings before her marriage, Miss Thurston was given a surprise, when Mr. Bunt, Superintendent, and the officers of the Sunday: school met at her home and made the presentation. The little folk also surprised her with their gift, formally presented by Masters Frank Bunt and R. N. Cornfield, accompanied lgv a neat address, read by little Miss Mar- .guerite Runstadtler. The estimate of a man’s life, af- ter he has passed away, is based not upon hfiscreed, lnn upon the life he has lived, the work he has done. Near ‘the village of Leamingfnn, Warwickshire, in a small country churchyard, {connected with a beautiful ivy-covered church. may be found a stone, on which 15 this inscription: Hero lit-s a miser who lived for himself, And cared for nothing but gath- ering pelt. Now, Where he is, or how he tau. mil‘here are two remarkable epi- taphs to be seen in England, but a few hours’ journey apart. fares Nobody knows and nobody cares. How little this man’s neighbors cared for his creed, and how much impressed they were with his life‘ this epitgph shows. 'â€" 9â€"- QL 15-..“... ‘1 inflame Co. TWO EPITAPHS The (millinery openings were held here on Friday and Saturday last, when the ladies of the town and surrounding country had real enjoyment in visiting the differ- ent millinery (establishments, and noting the artistic designs in head- gear for the fall season. For years, the Chronicle {has been saying more or less about these events as the seasons came round and even with the experience of previous efforts, we do not feel that newspaper description is a". all satisfactmy unless in the handsof one who understands thoroughly all details in connection with the art. Mr. Morlock‘s millinery depart- ment has existed for years, and every succeeding year seems to outdo its predecessors. Special at- tention has always been given to this department, and we believe that the many pleased customers in years gone by is the strongest testimony that can be given of its merits. First class milliners and trimmers have always been em- ployed, and (up-to-date novelties have always been in evidence. This year, the work is in charge of Miss Sime, a most lcourteous young artist, who will do every- thing in reason to please her cus- to‘mers. The styles are all the lat- est, and the material used is the very best quality. J. LEVINE. This is the first season Mr. Le- vine has engaged in the. millincry line, and we can say nothing of his experience in this new branch of business. During the years he has been in town, he has borne a good reputation, and so far as we know, enjoys a large measure of public confidence, is increasing in popularity, and has a growing business. The imillinery depart- ”To see the different millinery creations, is an absolute necessity to enable one to forml any kind}! an idea of the ever-varying styles in women’s head dress, and this time We shall only notice the event and ask the ladies who are inter- ested to come and see for them-â€" selves. ment just added, is in competent hands, Miss Brown, of Toronto, a lady of much city experience, hav- ing full charge. We have no doubt Mr. Levine Dwill have everything: right up-ta-date, and he tells us he sells at the lowest possible price-s_consistent with quality of . oods and good work. The Iladies esiring‘ miliinery do not need to be told to examine all the estab- lbishments, and buy what suits them eat. MISS DICK. It seems as if the superb handiâ€" craft of all nations is something" as an inspiration for the marvel- lous color displayed in this seas- on’s productions, now being shown in this millinery show room. Col- ors are not confined to la few choice creations, but consist of Persians, King’s blue, Roman red. green, gold, silver, huckleberrv' blue, and a hundred other com- binations of colors. The designs, t-oo, seem to be of endless variety, those shown consisting of picture hats, large mushroom designs, tur- bans, liberty bell, and the modified Ullllfi, llllflLV I]Lll,u1|\l LILL n \~.-.w“ (‘ossack turban. Some of the fexv models are the very large black \‘t'lV't‘l picture hat, cl-of'lh of gold crown and ‘black willow plume. There are also a number of draped hats and crowns in black and colors. The showing of trimmed millinery is practical. serviceable and stylish. Large and small hats are in demand. and no one who sees can fail to be im- pressed by the great breadth of éelection. It is not the quantity of food taken but the amount digested and assimilated that gives strength and vitality to the system. A series 'of petty burglaries which have been perpetrated at Owen Sound during the past fortnight, in which entrance was forced into several business hous- es and small amounts of money taken, came to an end on Satur- day night, when Sidney Hope, a young Englishmna, was arrested. Monday morning he confessed to having committed the burglaries, when he was confronted by the owners of the articles found in his room in connection with aChinese restaurant. The prisoner is an undersized man, and was able to force his way through very small openings. Eighteen months in the Central Pris-on was the sentence he received. Capt.
