To shorten the term an 1 apply the last would touch the [spot more effectually. The suit for damages against the town, instituted by J. G. Wilâ€" son, Was heard at Owen Sound on Tuesday last. Some weeks ago, Wilson with his horse and buggy drove down the steep bank at the, Lambton street bridge, which Was; then undergoing repairs. He re- ceived some bodily injuries and Isued the town on the ground that l 'the approach to the danger spot, was not properly protected. Con-9 siderable evidence was heard onl both sides, but the judge decided against the plaintiff, who has to pay all costs in connection with the suit. The decision went the way we expected, and while we regret to hear of any man losing hegvily in law, we must say we believe Mr. Wilson was ill-advised in pursuing the course he did. Many of the ratepayers had grave doubts about the result, and felt’ that the town was danger- ously near a big outlay if it The ratepayers will be asked to‘ vote on a debenture by-law at the municipal election in January. It will authorize the council to raise $4000 for the Lambton street bridge, extending the payments over a period of ten years, the annual amount required for prin-' cipal and interest being $530.67. There is nothing for it apparently but to vote the amount, and every ratepayer may as well support'it as do otherwise. It will be some- thing new in the history of Dur- ham by-laws if votes are not re- corded against it. Whatever blame. may be attached to the expendi-‘ ture of this outlay,‘ the present1 iyear’s council can hardle be sad- ldled with it.
