SHARP Musical been known as the Sick Man of Europe, end the expulsion of the Turin from ComtantinOple was re- garded as only a qLestion of time .In Ania Minor the Porte would still have a seat of empire and an undeveloped territory of wonderful productiveneas. Bruse was the capital of the Ottoman Empine in the fourteenth and fit- teenth centuries, and it would serve that purpose again in the twentieth cen_tur_y. With a_ reform government Turkey might become prosperous it never again a great ‘Power. But in little more than a year after her entrance into the great war as an ally o! the Ten- tonic nations Turkey in Asia is be- ing overrun by the victorious armies of an implacable enemy under the command of the Grand Duke Nicholas, who was always an able organizer and is now winumg new la‘urels as a strategist. Tur- key is now the Sick Man of Asia. It is now almost a year since Enver Pasha, the rommander in chief of the Turkish armes, declar- ed in an interview at Constanti- nOple that Turkey entered the war not to help Germany but to save the national territory. “We mobilized.” said Enver Pasha, “bo- caise there was no way out.” He was then pOlear with the army this man of many adventures and many lives. But to-day he is being held responsible, not only for the disasters in Armenia, but for inâ€" volving Turkey in the war. His no'pularity is ebbing fast. Another attack on his life has been made. He was always susyiected of boino‘ a tool of Germany. The charge is believed row. Talaat Bev as Minis- ter of War .shares the odium. REGISTER MALES UP TO SIXTY-FIVE A delegation of the leading citi- zens of the Province of Ontario will shortly wait on Premier Hearst and ask that an act be :passed providing for a complete *registration of all persons in the Zprovince, male and female, I):- ltween the ages of 15 and 65, ex- cepting those enrolled in thv ox- neditionary forces. Therp is raturally talk of over- tures of peace to Russia, and there are mt.tterings of revolution. RY- agg‘eration there may be in the reports, but with everv day of the Russian advance Turkey’s useful- ness as an ally declines and her condition becomes more desper~ ate. If starvation follows in t‘ne Wake of military reverses Turkry will soon cease to be a factor in the wanâ€"The New York Sun. The object of the registration is to find the resources of the pro- vince in men fit for military or other service and its entire re- sources in workers. There is another end in View. and that is that this province may not be drained of its workers after it has completed its quota of the 500.000 men Canada is contributing for war services abroad. Ontario‘s share yet to be raised of this total is 87,000. The act, which the deputation will ask to have submitted pro- vides that the provincial secretary shall be the central registration authority. and the councils of all cities, towns, townships and vil- lages shall be local registration authorities for their respective areas or may delegate this power. The returns are to be compiled and such information as the central registration authorities require furnished to the central office.
