A happy New Year and a" most prosperous 1924 is our wish for all Chronicle readers. There is much coming and going this Yuletide and many happy faâ€" mily reunions. THE DURHAM CHRONICLE It matters little the state of either roads or weather as regards the atâ€" endance at Zion’s Christmas tree concert. There was a full house on Friday evening last and the order and attention paid to every number was most commendable. Miss E. J. Allan is specially gifted in training her pupils and their recitations and songs were well given. Others closely associated with the neighbor- hood were Misses Elsie and Isabella Mays of Guelph, Clara Jack of town, and Davie Allen, Viola Neely, Mary Anderson and Ada Paylor of No. 3 section. Two of the best numbers were ‘The Rooster Parade" and the pantomime. “Some One Will Open the Pearly Hates.“ the latter being one of the finest numbers ever given in Zion. The young people upheld the established reputation of the place for dramatic ability and the three dialogues were well acted. The instrumental duet. by Miss Jackson and Mr. Bluhm of Holland was a rare musical treat. and the jazz band sel- ections of the Sunny South Com- pany under Prof. Bryson Morlock’s leadership convulsed the house. Rev. J. E. Peters made a. tactful chairman. Santa Claus and his as- sistants had a big task in stripping the two big trees. At a sacrifice of between. $250,000 and $500,000 and annual revenue, the Ferguson administration is cutting liquor prices at the Ontario Govern- ment dispensaries, says a dispatch from Toronto. The new prices went into effect on the first of the year. Although last year‘s liquor sales statistics are not available as yet, it is understood from Government circles that the net profits to the Government were approximately a miilion dollars. In former years they have reached about three quarâ€" ters of a million dollars in which connection former Altorne v-Genoral Raney, \\ as subjected to seve1e criâ€" ticism f1 om the then Conserxatiwe 01:11:)ositi«:>11..
