'l'he picnic held here on the 20th inst. by L.U.L. 1136 was a decided success. although the day looked threatening. A large number turned out and an enjoyable afternoon and evening was spent. by both young and older people. At 1.30 o'clock, T. McIntyre. Dundzilk. chairman. called the audience to ordpr and started the program, which consisted of mu- sic by Dunilalk Band and the Swin- ton Park Pipe Band. violin selections by Miss Bushell. Highland dancing by Miss Mills. and Joe Wlilliams, comedian. and E. Glendenning. of Parry Sound, entertainer. At 4.30 THE DURHAM CHRONICLE Bunessan and Dundalk ladies play ed a game of softball, the Glen girls carrying off the big end of the score. Then Swinton Park and Maxwell football teams plaved a fast game but neither scored, although a fast game was played. Dancing was the next feature of the ex ening. A good number from Jiere at- tended the monster picnic at Euge- nia Falls on‘the 215t and report a crowd near to eight thousand. The principal speakers were Rt. Hon. Arthur Meighen and Hon. G. S. Hen- ry. A good many went to hear the views of the Conservative leader and were wei~l pleased with them and- are beginning to think he is the man to manage the affairs of Canada, as he is a brilliant. speaker and statesman. On Friuly evening Miss Macphail held a meeting in Boothville schoox and a small number, principally children, turned out to hear her. She gave a sketch of how the members sat in Parliament and how some were dressed. and eat, and went out for refreshments, etc., which was of no benefit to anyone. The picnic at Eugenia Falls sufl‘ered little criti- cism, only one of the speakers made the remark that the next member from South-East Grey would repre- sent the common people. This is quite true. That was proved last year on the 25th of June for the. On- tariolLegislature. While in Ottawa Miss, Macphail wanted to get peti- tions and letters from the clubs in her riding, which'would help her. The club here will be a wonderful help. T02whom? The Swinton Park football team took in the spmts at Fex eisham on Saturday and played a game with St1athawon, but were defeated 1-0. Fevorsham and Collingwood also played, Feversham winning 2-0. The two winners then played and Strathavon won over Feversham 1-0. Mr. and Mrs. B.
