RR. 1. l '15 3c It is a long time since Green Plume has taken advantage of the courtesy of the editor of The Chron- icle in extending to the Durham Boy Scouts the privilege of using this column for the recording of Scout doings. The last record that ap- eared in this space was the his- ry of the District Boy Scout camp at White Cloud Island. Since then the summer holidays have passed, and the autumn also, and here we are well into the winter. Scout work in the Town has continued in ,much the same way as before. The |Troop has made steady progress with its tests and other scout work, and are now looking forward to ex- pansionâ€"iii possible. The Scoutmas- ter expects to organize a Gillwell training course for Scout Leaders, and hopes, in this way, to train leaders for other troops which will be organized in Durham and district. The troop is moving to new quar- ters this week in the McLachlan Block, the old Masonic Lodge Rooms. They have rented this for their weekly meetigs and expect to have a comfotrable clubroom for the members of the Troop. At the same time, they wish to extend to the Library Board and Librarian their sincere thanks for the courteous treatment that they have received from them during the time they oc- cupied the basement of the Public Library. Another patrol will be organized immediatelyâ€"making three in the troop; any fellows between the ages of twelve and seventeen who wish tot apply for admission should see the: Scoutmaster immediately, as only a limited number can be admitted. As the Troop expects to incur considerable expenditure during the renting year. the matter of financing is receiving consideration by the Sroutnlaster and Troop Committee. it has been suggested that a con- cert be staged early in February by the Scouts. This would consist of Scout. work. songs and Scout drills. inte-rspersml with vocal and instrumental numbers from mem- bers of the Troop. and should be a “bang-up" success. The members of the 'l'roop. therefore, ask their friends to bear this in mind and Lwhen the time comes. co-«werate With the 'l‘roop in l'io‘osting..r the show. -\ most. unfortunate accident hap- pened in the second period when t‘iscar Mom has his lip laid open by a blow from a stick in the hands of one Of the Mount Forest lads. For the first two weeks in Jan- uary. the market for live poultry held strong.' in Buffalo but. declined at. the end of last week owing to verv lihe1al supplies and a slow de- mand. Thexe is an embargu from 8 states piohibiting the shipping of live fowl over their borders owing .to the poultry plague which has been so prevalent in some parts and which has already cost. a loss of thousands of valuable birds in these different. states of the lV'.S.A. We notice that even ecptv poultrv crates coming back f1om Buffalo have to be thomughlvd isinfected and washed in the presence of an in- spector before they area llowed to cross the line into Ontario.
