Inmates Egremont Council H. H. MacDonald, Clerk THE DURHAM CHRONICLE The Orange Lodge held a Progressive Euchre party in their Hall Wednesday evening, February 10. Ten games were in better health again after being confined to her bed a few weeks ago with the grippe. The Varney Wide Awake Club met at the home of Ronald Smith, Tuesday evening, February 9, with a fair attend- ance. Mr. Smith presided. The meet- ing opened with “Carry Me Back to Old Virginia” The minutes and roll call was taken by the Secretary. It was decided that the executive com- mittee look after the public speaking and debating contest. Community singing closed the meeting. Lunch was Varney (Our Own Correspondent) Congratulations to Mrs. Thos. Allen, Varney, who celebrated her 84th birth- day on St. Valentine’s Day, February 14. Her own family are all at a distance and were unable to be present, but sent remembrances. Her son James Allen, who preaches in the Salvation Army, Winnipeg, packed a box of raw fruits and good things to eat which she was to have on her birthday dinner table. To help her enjoy the hot dinner which she pre- pared herself, were the Eden and Mc- Cabe families of Varney. We are pleased to know that ms.
