On Friday last we visited for a few hours the Artemesia Fair which was held in Priceville, and found it almost an cxact repetition of all previous fairs held in the same place if not indeed to all fairs of a local character. The day previous was not very cheerful owing to the wea- ther. and in consequence of this, we presume. the exhibitors did not con- tribute so largely as they otherwise would. Friday, however, was a choice day and during the afternoon a large number of visitors entered the gates, and on the whole tht show may be pronounced a success. Roots. vegetables and grains of all kinds were good, and the stock ex~ hibit and show of horses were quite satisfactory. Fruit vendors were quite sufï¬cient for the occasion, and the plaintive pleadings of two or three fakirs on the “ Midway " kept up an incessant howl. On Friday evening the Society wound up with aconcert in Watson’s Hall, John McArthur, Esq., County Comr., in the chair. After a few appropriate remarks complimenting the Society on their success. and the audience on their good looks, which he stated he had not seen equalled during his sojourn on the other side of the Atlantic. which statement was taken down with great satisfaction by the audience, he proceeded to call on the artists for their share of the entertainment. Our local songstress. ' Miss J. Renwick, from Dromore, de- lighted the large audience by her excellent rendering of the various numbers chosen. Amongst others, we might mention the following, viz, “Rolling Home to Bonnie Scot- land,†“Scatland Forever,†and her duets with Mr, Fax, "The Crookit Baubee†and “ When Ye gang awa Jamie,†were well rendered and highly appreciated. When we have such a singer here at hand, we fail to see the object of importing simi- lar talent to future entertainments. Mr. Jas. Fax, on his first appearance in Priceville. simply took the house by storm. His appearance in every number elicited sounds of hearty ap- plause. The following pieces, viz, “On the wrong side of the fence.†“Selected," “English you know,†at “ The Pan-American Show," Chinese character song, and "Noisy little pigs,†were really ï¬rst-class in their line. His gentlemanly man- ;ner and entire freedom from vulgari- ty, added greatly to a really enjoyable program. We predict for the future that he will have no diï¬lculty in ï¬lling the Hall should he again visit Priceville. His duets with Miss Renwick were also capi- tally done. The following gentle- men gave addresses short and to the point, Messrs. Dougald McLean, M. Reiley, R. J. Sproule, of Flesherton, D. McCormick, President A. A. Society, J. Brodie, Sec. A. A. Society, Dr. J. G. Hutton, Durham. They, all expressed their pleasure at being present at such an excellent enter- tainment, and congratulated the Society on its success. Miss Chris- toe, of Flesherton, acted as accom- panist in her usual pleasing manner. The concert was brought to a close by the singing of God Save the King by the artistis, in which the audience heartily joined. Then good night from the chairman, and another Priceville show ended.
