At the coroner’sin- quest held at Dobbington on Wednes- day the following circumstances were brought out in the evidence: Some time ago Bolstridge borrowed 8.50 from Monkman to add to 820 he had himself, with which to buy a herse. Bolstridge was to give Monkman a note or security for the $50. The horse was bought. and subsequently traded off to a Paisley man for a wild broncho. Disputings followed between the two men over the bor- rowed money, and on the ”I‘ll inst , an exchange of words ended in Bol- smudge striking Monkman. They then clinched, and both fell between the sidewalk and fence. They wete parted. and when Bolstridge got up he complained of a soreness or a stitch in his Side. For the next two days he was away at Shallow Lake. On the 9th inst , Dr. Park, of Ches- ley was called in, and found a wound between the sixth and seventh ribs. Which may have been caused by a knife or something sharp. The wound was just through into the pleural cavity, but not touching the lung. The Dr. did not think it seri- ous if properly attended to. He was called in next day and found the pa- tient suffering from pleurisy and pneumonia, and there were indica tions that blood poisoning had set in about the wound He died on Tues- day. The verdict given by the coro- ner’s jury was that. Bolstridge ’came to his death from the eflects of the wound (blood poisoning). and other causesâ€"pneumonia, pleurisy, and lack of attention to the wound (de- ceased ret'using to allow the wound to be dressed in the Dr.’s absence). The trial of Monkman for assault and wounding was held at Chesley before Magistrate D, M. Halliday. Sevetal witnesses were examined, some of whom testified that Monk- man was using a knife. whittliug a stick. at the time the fight commenc ed. Others did net see him with a. knife at all. The accused was com- mitted to stand his trial at the next assizes. and hail was fixed at $1,000. â€"â€"Paisley Advocate Mr. Alfred “’alden. 7 Cornwall St.. Claude Cromby a young English immigrant of about 21) yea1s of age who recently arrived from the Old Country, and who is employed asa farm hand. With Mr. George Clark, was the victim of the bold deed. While Mr. Cromby was taking a stroll on the townline an unknown man suddenly pounced upon him from a grove by the side of the road, seized him by the throat, and attempted to lighten him of any cash he might have on him. Cromby prepared to gdefend himself and admin istered a severe blow to his assailant with the only weapon he hadâ€"his fist. The latter retaliated by draw- ing a revolver and discharging it in Cromby’s arm. The daring scoundrel after securing about $20 left as sud- denly as he appeared. No trace of the robber has yet been discovered. Magistrate Pye has communicated with the County Crown Attorney at Owen Sound and the matter will be investigated at once. This is the most serious and daring piece of work that has taken place in 00“ng- wood township for many years and has created intense excitement, No stone should he left unturned until the robber is run to earth and safely lodged behind the bars.
