As the railroad is run- ning close to the public road down this line for about a quarter of a mile, it makes it bad travelling forI . teams in case of trains coming una- wares.“ The Hopkins case is not settled, we understand, and by alll appearance the public road will be ‘ close to the railroad. It will he in. -convenient to Mr. Hopkins to have lhis barn between the railroad and public highway, but to make the public road kind of safe, a new road should be made from the Orange Hall coming north of Hapkin’s barn about 20 rods and striking the old public road on the top of hill. The! fact of the matter is that all travel-{ lers that can possibly avoid travelling this road will do so, as those coming in from Egremont will take down by Varney, and some from the South Line will strike on to Ryan’s side- road, and those further east on to Livingston’a and 40 sideroads. There are other ways of getting to Durham without risking ones life driving alongside a railroad track for miles. but the trouble is that no matter which way we take from Top Clifi we have to go alongside the railroad. for down the Glen it runs there for over a mile close to the gravel road. So our only escape will be to use the old road up Big Peter’s hill and than lup Big Hugh’s hill as in days of yore till we land safely at Bunessan. We can then go on our way rejoicing into Durham, for we can go up Peter Watson’s hill to Upper Town and g avoid all doings with the railway, !
