June 8â€"A five‘-year-old boy fell yeszerday from a train that was running near Twyford. He- was non hurt. and ran to rejoin the train, which his father, in the meantime. had stOpoed. Before the bov reached the train an express passed along the paralled track upon which the youn28ter was running. and knocked him down, passing over him. His worship delivered a happy address of welcome. during which he referred to Berlin’s prowess as a manufacturing centre.,notwith- standing its lack of natural advan- tages and during the last fifteen years the grovnh of the- town has been steady and subsrantial. He referred to the ifact that there are about 80 factories {of all kinds in the town, and over 200 commercial travellers are travel- ling throughout the world selling the outputs which last year amounted to nearly $7,500,000. These factories gave employment to 3000 male and 1000 female hands and last year the wages paid amounted to about $1,500,000 The citizens were firm believers in municipal oWnership and over $550,000 has been inveSted in the purchase of the water-works. the gas and electric works, and the street railway. as well as the conStruction of the most modern and SOCCOSSfUl sewage disposal plant on the contin- ent, to which a great deal of credit is due to Dr. J. F. Honsberger, one of the delegates of the Conference. The Mayor' referred to the educa- tional advantages of the town and also informed the delegates of the fact that 7( per cent. of the beautiful residences of which Berlin is proud were owned by the occupants. Ref- erence was made to Victoria Park, the Carnegie Library, the salendid fire department and in conclusion the Mayor gave the delegates the freedom of the town and expressed the hope that their visit to Berlin would be profitable and long remem- bered The delegates tendered the delegation a'n evation and on motion Mr. J. DEATH 01" MRS JOHN FOGARTY. Startinzly sudden was the death of Mrs. John Fogarty who passed away at her home in Glenelg on Satâ€" urday evening, at the age of fifty years. Mrs. Fogarty has been very unwell since Christmas but during the last few weeks seemed slightly improved. On Saturday evening she was sitting at tea with the family, when she gave forth signs of distress Loving kands were at her side in an inatant, but human agency was in- eflective and the spirit soared away. Heart trouble was the cause of her sudden decease. Mrs. Fogarty was‘ born near Berkeley in 1857 and is a] daughter of Mr. James Quinn. Toi Mr. and Mrs. Fogartv were born one. son and four daughters, all of whom, to getber with Mr. Fogarty. survive and deeply mourn their loss. The deceased was of a most cheerful dis- ,position, always looking on the [bright side. and leading a most ex- 'emp1arly christian life.
