Mrs. H. W'illiams read an address and a handsome parlor rug was presented by Mr. Jos. McNally. Mr. Ritchie replied briefly, thank- ing them for their kindness, and assured them that it was not with- out considerable regret that he was leaving the neigi‘iborhood. Short addresses were made by several of the old neighbors, and then the remainder of the evening was pleasantly spent in various games and music and dancing. 'i‘he following is a c0py of the address: To Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ritchie and Family: Dear Friends,â€"We assemble here to-night to give expression to the kindly feelings we have al- ways held towards you and your family. It was with feelings of re- gret that we have learned recent- ly of your intended removal from our midst, but we are glad to know your newhome will not pre- vent us from seeing you often and‘ enjoying frequent periods of so-: cial intercourse. During the whole period of your lives you have been. active members of this community and your departure from this; neighborhood will leave a blank that will be hard to fill. We have always found you good, kind neighbors, and always willing to lend a helping hand in every time of need. We have found you honest, honorable and upright in your dealings, and the noble qualities of your lives make the separation all the more trying. You have always taken a deep interest in educational matters and your experience as a member of the municipal council was al- ways characterized by honesty and integrity. We take pleasure in presenting you With this parlor rug, which we ask you to accept as a meâ€" mento of our kindly feelings tow- ards you. We hape you will ever be able to remember us as true friends and that you may be long spared to enjoy the joys and comforts you so ricth deserve. We are ever, yours with best wishes. l I l l Mr. Wm.
