A ha py and prosperous New Year, r. Editor and to all the readers 01 your paper. The Hanwden anniversary and tea-meeting, which was held the 19th and 20th of December was a grand success. Mr. Wilson, or Wankel-ton, occupied the pulpit morning and evening and gave the people assembled a most excel-.- lent sermon. Mr. Wilson certainly makes every word count, and the people icit quite satisfied with the Sunday services. A large crowd gathered at the church on Monday night. After the five hundred, so to speak, were led, they assembled into the upper part 01 the church where a grand pro- gramme was awaiting them. Mr. McLean our pastor, acted as chair- man. Splendid readings and recitations were given by Mrs. McLean and Miss Witthun of Han- over, and solos by Miss Leeciug of Hanover, and Mr. Lorraine, of Ayton, which was much enjoyed oy all, a duett by Miss Derby and Miss Kerr, the speakers of the evening were Andrew Derby. Dr. blade, and H. H. Miller, of 'flanover, They all gave us something ,very impurtant to think over, and Lance Corporal Barret, of Owen Sound, also spoke a few but important words to the audience who gave him the very best attention, and then the Hampden choir gave a few selections also. Our social was closed by singing the national _an- them, and everyone returned to their homes feeling quite satisfied with the evening’s entertainment Proceeds, $62. 50. Many from around here took in the social at Knox Church - last Wednesday night and report a Splendid time1 â€"_â€" ‘ A few of the Hampd-en qongre- nation assembled at the home of Mrs. Bradley, Allan Park last Fri- day night, for the purpose of pre- senting her son and also Noble Lucas our two soldier boys'with a fountain pen each and $10.
