Monday night friends of the village and community met and spent a social evening with the McMillan family be- fore leaving for their new home the following day. The evening was spent in progressive euchre. Miss Nellie Mc- Lean won first prize for the ladies and Percy Stoneouse for the men. After‘ the euchte game Mt. Bert Aussem called the g'atheting to order and Miss Nellie McLean read an address, while Violet Stoneouse and Donald Nichol made the presentation of al lovely floor lamp and chair. Mr. andl Mrs. McMillan made a fitting replyg voicing their appreciation and thanks for the gifts and extending an invita- tion to their Priceville friends to Visit' them in Durham. Winter surely has set in in this part of the country. The continuous stormy weather is making the roads heavy and impassable in some places. Mr. and Mrs. Donald McCannel have received word from their son, Pte. Mervyn McCannel, who was serving in Holland, that he is in hospital in England where he underwent an op- eration. The Women’s Institute met on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Dyers when boxes were packed for the shut-ins. Those taking part in the program were Mrs. Fenton and Mrs. Morrison. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Barber and son, Barry, spent Monday evening with Mm. Mary Morrison. The Sunday School Christmas con- cert of the United Church was held on Thursday night and was very suc- cessful. Word has been received that the operation on Mrs. Petrie's eyes has been successful. Her many friends are pleased to learn this and wish for her a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Carter spent the week- end in Mount Forest. M‘szs Mac-Lean and pupils are busy practicing for their Christmas Con- cert. Mr. George Collinson, who has con- ducted the Green Grove Service Sta- tion and grocery store for the past nine years, has sold the business to Mr. Hamill McCaslin, who has been discharged from the army after ser- ving for some time in Labrador. The funeral service is to be held from the home on Tuesday afternoon. The meeting of the W. A. and W. MS. 5 was held on Wednesday afternoon in the school room of St. Columba, church. It was a very small meeting‘ only seven ladies being present. The' president and vice-president ably car-l 1ied on and although few in number had an interesting meeting. After the meeting closed all enjoyed a pot luck lunch. i We extend our deepest sympathy to Mr. Peter Muir and family in the loss of a loving wife and mother, who passed away Sunday morning after play but all reported a good time. The church was filled [to overflowing with friends and rela- tives. Mr. Paul Rumball had charge ,of the servce, assisted by Rev. Mr. :Penman of St. Columba church. The scripture reading was read by Mr. .Penman from psalm 20:94, after .,whieh he led in prayer. The hymn, .Blest be the tie that Binds was sung. ; Reference was made not only to those ‘who give their lives, but in their pass- ?ing for all the community of men and .emphasis was given to the need that 1their sacrifices and the sacrifices of : their parents be not in vain. The min- ‘ister expressed the sympathy of the :eongregation to the bereaved family land concluded the sermon with words .of comfort to them. Mrs. Peter Muir passed away early Sunday morning. The funeral is being held Tuesday at her late residence. iMore particulars next week. Miss Margaret Leith and her uncle, Mr. Archie McDonald from the -west visited recently at Mr. Henry Tucker’s. (Intended for Last Week) The Y.P.S. was held Tuesday even- ing at the home of Mrs. Dan Camp- bell. Mr. Grant Sayers presided. He read the scripture and led in prayer. Mrs. Campbell also read a portion of scripture. Mrs. A. L. Hincks gave a paper ‘Marching Onward’. Consider- able business was dealt with. Lunch wus served. This week the meeting will be held at. the home of Grant Sayers. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Hincks and boys, Mrs. MoLachlan and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Campbell spent Frday in Owen Sound. Mrs. T. Nichol returned home after spendng a week with her daughter at McIntyre. Mr. and Mrs. Hector McLean intend leaving this Saturday to spend the Christmas holiday with their family in Toronto. Mr. Gilvmy McLeaâ€"n. who is in the - ‘m'y at Halifax spent last week at his father’s. He is home on a three-week vacation. Mrs. C. D. Cox of Bervie visited friends in Priceville last week. The snow storm over the week-end played havoc with the back roads and stopped motor traffic for now. The teacher, Mrs. I. B". Whittaker was in bed for three days last week so there was no school but it re-open- ed Monday. Mr. Innis McLean, Toronto, spent theiweek-end at his parental home.
