Lori Strong of Whitby placed second overall at the Grand Prix of Rome gymnastics competition held last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (June 3 – 5) in Rome, Italy.
But more importantly, she accomplished what she set out to do – become known in Europe.
“If the judges get to know you, you may get a higher score from them,” said Strong.
Strong, 14, placed first on the vault, with a score of 9…825 of a possible 10 points and placed second on the team, bars and floor exercises.
The competition had a different format to what Strong is accustomed.
On Wednesday the vault and her events were held, then the vault and the bar finals were held.
On the Thursday the beam and floor exercises were held, then the finals. Normally, event and finals are held on separate days. “It was a bit tiring because on the second day you had to do two floor and two beam events.” Said Strong, who says she could have done better at the event.
Strong placed second to Romanian Aurelia Dobre.
