Whitby native Lori Strong led the University of Georgia women’s gymnastics team to a win over the Brigham Young University team at a recent NCAA event.

Strong, a freshman at the school, was first in the overall competition as she had a season high 39.10 points for the four events.

She had a 9.9 on the bars and 9.8 on floor as a member of the Georgia team that is ranked second in the U.S. Utah is the top-ranked team.

Strong’s performance was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise poor showing by the Georgia team, known as the Lady Bulldogs.

Three veteran members of the team suffered five falls in events.

More than 5,000 people attended the meet.
